Upset at how he treated her, Nay busted through Zoom’s building door, down the steps and into the street. She had no business dealing with him yet she couldn’t separate herself. She found in him mystery and danger and his pain called to her soul.

She was in the middle of the block when she looked back and saw George walking quickly in her direction. “Can I talk to you for a minute, young lady?”

She wiped her tears, turned around and was startled. “No…leave me alone!” The last time she saw him Zoom was holding a gun to his face and robbing him in the hallway.

What could he possibly want accept his money back?

“Just five minutes of your time,” he begged as she continued to walk briskly. “It’s about Martha Gregory and the family. There are things you don’t know. Things I have to tell you.”

Nay stopped and stood in the middle of the street. “What…what about them?”

“My apartment is right around the corner and my car is on the curb.” He pointed to a navy blue Cadillac. “Let me take you there and tell you everything you want to know. Judging by your tears I can tell you have questions.”

Nay accepted and walked slowly to his car, all the while Berry watched from the window.
